Hello, My Queens

My name is Scianna and I’m the owner of Scianna’s Boutique. To give those of you who don’t know me a little insight on who I am…I promise not to take up too much of your time (clears throat).

Ever since I was a child, I’ve always had a deep passion for fashion. As a young girl, I remember telling my mother I was going to be a fashion designer and a runway model. However, as I embarked on this journey called life, it diverted me into a different direction. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I was pulled into the world of retail and management.

​

I had worked for numerous companies, from big named retailers to more intimate boutiques. My goal was to see how far up the ladder I was able to climb. After years of working in the retail sector, I found myself being stagnant in these positions and thought: “What’s wrong with me? Am I not working hard enough? Do I even have the qualities of being a leader?” 

​

I found myself asking those questions you’d ask when you’re not seeing growth. I really started to doubt my own abilities for being what I thought was successful. 

​

A NEW LIFE

At the age of 32, I had my first child. The baby girl I’d always dreamed of having. During this time, I had been working at a company for six years and shortly after returning to work from maternity leave, I was presented with a demotion. Now, I know it may not be a big deal to some but becoming a new mom and trying to get back into a work routine made me feel excitement. I was happy to be back in my element of work and thrilled I was doing something I’d always been passionate about. After hearing the unfortunate news of demotion, I fell into a slight depression because I was losing a lot in my life. My income was cut in half, health benefits were depleted, and my relationship was on the rocks as a result of drastic financial changes. And to top it off, I was still becoming acclimated to being a first-time mom.

A few months after my daughter’s second birthday, she was diagnosed with epilepsy, which was extremely overwhelming to deal with. Between many hospital stays and sleepless nights. I found myself overwhelmed with my reality. From that point on, I had to figure out a way to have some flexibility in my schedule and to sustain daily living.

​

Deep down I knew my potential to achieve something greater than what I’d experienced. I was aware of my dreams and capability to attain them, but like many, I was afraid to step out of my comfort zone. I had failed at many things in life, but I didn’t want to fail myself; I had a little one looking up to me. I didn’t step out on faith right away; it definitely took some time. During time off from my career, I spent time researching how I could take my life into my own hands and be the growth that I’d been desperately seeking for so long. I worked tirelessly. I told myself that if I ever work this hard, it’ll be for myself this time around.

Putting on a beautifully designed garment elevates our spirit, extols our sense of self, and helps define you as a woman to whom details matter. The way we dress affects the way we feel, the way we think, the way we act, and the way others react to us. And whether or not we’ve had a bad day, it shouldn’t be reflected in our appearance. Let’s allow our stories to be told, not by our circumstances, but in the beauty of the garments we wear.
